How to care for your tablecloth – a guide to long-lasting joy

A tablecloth is not just a practical solution for the dinner table – it is the setting for everyday meals, festive celebrations and cozy moments with those you love. At Blåmst, we design tablecloths that are made to be used again and again, but like everything else in the home, they deserve a little loving care to stay beautiful for many years.

Here you will find our best tips on how to take good care of your tablecloth and extend its lifespan.

1. Wash with care 🫧

All our tablecloths are made of 100% organic cotton and can be machine washed at 40 degrees.
✔ Wash with similar colors to avoid discoloration.
✔ Use a mild detergent without optical brighteners to protect the fabric.
✔ Avoid fabric softener – it can affect the textile fibers and reduce absorbency.

💡 Tip: Does the tablecloth have a stain? Dab gently with lukewarm water and a mild soap before washing. Do not rub – this can push the stain deeper into the fabric.

2. Dry and iron your tablecloth properly 🌿

To keep the tablecloth looking good after washing, it is important to dry it correctly.
✔ Let it air dry if possible – this reduces shrinkage.
✔ If you use a dryer, select low heat and take the tablecloth out while it is still slightly damp.
✔ Iron on medium to high heat while the fabric is still slightly damp – this makes it easier to smooth out the creases.

💡 Tip: Hang the tablecloth directly after washing to minimize wrinkles and make ironing easier.

3. Storage with care 🏡

When your tablecloth is not in use, it can stay nicer if it is stored properly.
✔ Fold it neatly and store it in a dry closet or drawer.
✔ Avoid direct sunlight for extended periods of time as it may fade the fabric.
✔ If necessary, place a layer of tissue paper between the folds to reduce sharp creases.

💡 Tip: Roll the tablecloth instead of folding it if you want to avoid creases altogether.

4. Remove stains quickly 🍷

Accidents happen – especially at the table! Here's how to remove the most common stains:
Red wine: Sprinkle salt on the stain immediately and carefully pour boiling water over it.
Grease stains: Rub gently with a little dishwashing liquid before washing the tablecloth.
Coffee/tea: Dab with a mixture of lukewarm water and a little vinegar.

💡 Tip: The sooner you treat a stain, the easier it is to remove!
